    Visual Bible's Gospel of Mark

Mark Goodacre has raised the spectre of the Visual Bible's Gospel of Mark film. For those unaware a this film, it was due to be the next film by the makers of the 90s' Gospel of Matthew and Acts and 2003's Gospel of John before the latter film unfortunately came off second in a box office clash with you know what. Mark (Goodacre not the apostle) has been very good at following this story in the past - his earlier posts on the film are at this link - which had pretty much died before I even got started here.

However, an old teaser trailer for the film has resurfaced on YouTube. As Mark indicates, all that's really new is Chris Plummer voiceover (the rest is either from John or stock footage). What makes it newsworthy though is that the director of John, Philip Saville who was also lined up to direct this, has apparently responded to an email from the person who posted the trailer. He mainly confirms that the project isn't going ahead, but there's a note of hope which suggests that Saville, at least, still wants to make the project a reality. But I very much doubt it will take place under the Visual Bible label.

I hope it goes ahead soon, under whatever label! I've been researching it for years off and on now. It sounded like they had finished almost all the filming for it before it fell of the production map.

Is there any way to contact Philip Saville? I'd like to send him an email as well, just so he knows there are ppl out there willing to do promo work for it if it gets made.

I'd not heard that filming was pretty much done before. In terms of contacting Saville you could try contacting the guy on YouTube who has posted the video as he's had an email from him, Just a thought.

      Thanks for your comment

I & my Christian friends would support this film one hundred percent and pray someone picks up the slack and put it in the Cinema's soon! We feel ripped off because they did not deliver it as promised after the wonderful Gospel of John film. Someone should not forget to advertise it on TBN even if they don't agree with every one hosting TBN it does provide great Press in the Christian community!

Why not get TBN's Generation X to produce it? Matt Crouch may love it!
Can anybody move this in his direction! He has not made a movie since One Night With The King? The only thing is, I would not let them change the true doctrine of the text to add their own spin or flavor like TBN usually does with the truth!
Ex: One Night with the King could have been labeled 2 Nights with the King since the film had Esther pretending to be the King's Scribe and reading to him before her One night with him which was totally not biblical!

I have also waited for years for this movie to be made. After awhile I became so frustrated I made my own version of "The Gospel of Mark" It took 110 hours of splicing 5 other gospel and jesus movies. It follows the the St James bible version and It runs 3 hours and 38 min. It includes parts of matthew, luke, acts, jesus of nazareth, the passion of the christ. I liked the Gospel of John but Mark is my favorite. I also have The Holy Spirit's reinterpretation of the Gospel of Mark (2007 version).....Good luck and God Bles.....Dr.J

My name is Chuck Bush and I was the original screenwriter of the Gospel According to Mark. I was also a producer on the Visual Bible project for 6 years. I left the project just prior to the production of John (which came after Mark had folded) when the company changed ownership. I just found out about this blog yesterday. Thank you for your support! I actually have several hours of raw footage from the project. including F. Murray Abraham as Peter. But much of the audio is missing because the film went way over budget before it was shut down and the lab in Italy had never been paid for its work. At one time I had cut together a scene, I'll see if I can put my hands on it. In any case, glad to know you guys are out there.

Money for this film can now be raised by putting it up on kickstarter.com and letting good Christians fund it. Let the Holy Word spread across the land.

I love all the movies that were made by the visual bible and was looking forward to the Gospel of Mark. I truly hope that the production of the film will start up again. I am sure there are Christians out there who would help support it. I would love to know if there is some kind of fund raising or support for the movie. With technology, these movies could be more amazing visually to help spread the good news.

      God Bless and Peace.

Please complete this project!!! The Gospel of John was the most impactful retelling of the Gospel I have ever seen. Henry Ian Cusick's portrayal was dramatic, true to Jesus' character, conduct, and concerns; and the acting by the entire cast was superb.I have no doubt that Mark would follow with the same excellence. The telling of Mark's Gospel in this film with the scriptural accuracy and passion Philip Saville brought forth in John, will change lives. I take offense to the movies portraying the "gentle Jesus". Jesus came preaching repentance and loved unconditionally. However, He did not do so at the expense of holiness and righteousness, and the truth of God's word. We need this film.

Thanks for all your comments on this post. John I'm afraid I'm not in a position to have any influence as to whether this gets made, but hopefully it may see the light of day sometime. Chuck I'd be really keen to see what there is, although I suspect that wouldn't really be possible.

I sure hope the Gospel of Mark movie becomes available. Visual Bible International produced the best bible films. I've watched The Gospel of John on DVD since 2005, and LOVE it every time. I think a lot of us are visual learners...the movies help us to understand and retain the bible better. I was so looking forward to The Gospel of Mark. I'd love to have it to share with others who also are "visual" people. Maybe someday...maybe?? :)

Thanks Alice, although it seems like this one is dead in the water. It's a shame. It's perhaps the most interesting of the gospels, and the only one not to have been filmed word for word. We can only hope.

It's a shame that they didn't film Mark and Luke while they were filming Matthew. So many of the sets and actors could have be used several times. There are some unique senes in Luke and Mark but all three share quite a bit of the Gospel just different versions of most of the passages.

The menu system for Matthew is greatly improve from John. Acts seems to be just like Matthew.

It's a shame that can't splice the senes from Mathew and replace the audio with Mark's words. Any unique senses could be handled like they did in Matthew. Let Mark tell the story rather than shooting that sene. The same could be done for Luke but there would be a lot more story telling.

It has enlighten us so much. I pray that the LORD put it on someone heart to provide funding for this project. What really would be awesome if the whole entire Bible could be done like this...for all things are possible. I think it would be a good idea to ask for support on such a project as this...I know I would support it. Thank You for being obedient to God. Thanks again, Stephanie

Can someone ecplain why it stopped in production. What happened? Why did it get so over budget? How much do they need to get it done. What dollar amount? Where there other factors besides money?

Cusick's good in the role, but he's 20 years older now, that's enough to move from Luke 3:23's "about 30" to John 8:57's "not yet 50".
